ChatGPT can connect to Notivo, but only with Developer Mode and a paid ChatGPT plan. That is OpenAI’s
requirement, not ours. Here is the honest setup, plus the easier path if you use Claude.
To connect Notivo to ChatGPT, confirm you are on a paid ChatGPT plan and turn on Developer Mode, then copy
your connection URL from Notivo under Settings, then AI Capture, and add it as an MCP server in ChatGPT.
Once it is connected, you plan as usual and say @notivo to save a plan into Notivo, tagged to the people and
topics in it.
Connect ChatGPT in four steps
Confirm a paid plan and turn on Developer Mode. A custom MCP connector needs a paid
ChatGPT plan and Developer Mode, both set in ChatGPT settings. Free plans cannot add one.
Copy your connection URL from Notivo. Open Settings, then AI Capture, and copy the URL,
which is unique to your account.
Add the MCP server in ChatGPT. Add a new MCP server and paste your Notivo URL.
Save a plan with @notivo. Plan as usual, then say @notivo to save a plan to Notivo.
On Claude instead?
Claude connects on any plan, including Free, with no Developer Mode.
Notivo gives ChatGPT three tools and no more: save_plan,
note_about_person, and list_my_topics. ChatGPT can save
a plan you point at and check which topics you keep. It cannot read your existing notes back, it does not
save the whole conversation, and it never touches the Black Box or scores anyone. Notivo only saves plans
that match the topics you set, so it stays a save-only filter.
Frequently asked questions
Can I connect Notivo to ChatGPT on the Free plan?
No. ChatGPT allows a custom MCP connector only on a paid plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu) with Developer Mode turned on. Free ChatGPT cannot add one. This limit is set by OpenAI, not by Notivo. If you are on Claude instead, it works on any plan, including Free.
Why does ChatGPT need Developer Mode when Claude does not?
Because OpenAI puts custom MCP connectors behind Developer Mode and a paid plan today. Claude exposes a custom-connector slot on every plan. The difference is in how each company ships the feature, not in Notivo. Native ChatGPT App Directory support is expected to make this simpler later.
Does ChatGPT read my Notivo notes or my whole chat?
No. The connector is save-only. ChatGPT can save a plan you point at with @notivo and check which topics you keep, but it cannot read your existing notes back, it never saves the whole conversation, and it never touches the Black Box.
Is a saved plan private?
A saved plan becomes a regular Notivo note, private by default and scoped to your own account, stored on secured infrastructure. It is not end-to-end encrypted; only the Black Box vault is.
